Concept Development

Analysis and Reasoning- The teacher asks children questions to check for comprehension; do these words make a sentence that is logical? “If that was a sentence, it would say ‘I see like who all.’ Does that make sense?”

Quality of Feedback

Scaffolding- The teacher guides children in the activity by giving directions and modeling so they know how to use the materials. She also helps them read the word by giving hints (She spells “L-I-K-E” and the student says, “like!”

Providing information- The teacher says, “That’s a new word, you haven’t learned that yet. It’s W-H-O Who. Like, who is playing this game?” She spells and names the new word and gives an example in a sentence. She puts a few other words in sentences to reinforce how the word is used.

Encouragement and Affirmation- The teacher affirms student effort: “Good job”
